Motor vehicle accident results in life-threatening injuries

Drivers who takes reasonable precautions can greatly increase the chances of arriving at their destinations safely. This can include wearing a seat belt, remaining free from distractions, obeying the speed limit and never driving after drinking alcohol. Unfortunately, even taking these safety measures is not always enough to avoid a motor vehicle accident if negligent or reckless drivers are on the road. One tragic event illustrates this.

One recent weeknight just before midnight, police began receiving calls from drivers who had reportedly witnessed a vehicle traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of a multi-lane highway in California. Before police could respond to the area, additional callers reported an accident in the same vicinity. Officers arrived on the scene to find an SVU and a sedan involved in what appeared to be a head-on collision.

Investigators believe the 28-year-old driver of the SUV was traveling west in the eastbound lane when he collided with the sedan, driven by a 45-year-old man. Both drivers were severely injured. Medical responders transported them to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police believe the driver of the SUV may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the crash occurred.

When travelers suffer injuries in motor vehicle accidents through no fault of their own, their families are often left with heavy burdens to bear. This may include steep medical bills, loss of income and perhaps even funeral expenses. Seeking compensation for these damages may be a critical part of the recovery and healing process. With the help of a California attorney many accident victims improve their chances of meeting these goals.
