Members of the California Highway Patrol recently responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident. The investigation is ongoing. However, preliminary details sadly confirm that multiple people died as a result of their injuries in the crash.
Investigators say the collision occurred not long after 6 a.m. on a recent Monday. One of the vehicles involved was a Toyota Corolla. The other was a Honda Civic. While the exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined, police did note that one of the vehicles was traveling in the wrong direction, resulting in a head-on collision.
4 people were killed
It is not uncommon for a head-on collision to cause serious or fatal injuries to those involved. In this case, four people were in the Toyota when the horrific accident occurred. Sadly, the injuries of all four vehicle occupants proved fatal. The driver of the other vehicle was listed in serious condition and was transported by air flight to a hospital.
Head-on collisions often due to driver negligence
There are numerous reasons why a vehicle might wind up traveling in the wrong direction on a California highway. A driver might misread signage on the road or could get distracted at the wheel. Many such collisions are also caused by drunk drivers. In any case, if fatal injuries occur because of driver negligence, an immediate family member of a decedent may file a wrongful death claim in a civil court to seek financial recovery for losses on behalf of the deceased loved one.
